Frequently Asked Questions

What is OrdersLink?

OrdersLink is a web application that enables ShopWorks OnSite Users to quickly post order information onto a web site. You control which customers and salespersons have access to what information. Click here for more on how it works.

How can it benefit my company?

OrdersLink is a communications tool between you and your customers and salespersons. It pays for itself by reducing the amount of time your customer service department and salespeople spend fielding calls about order details and order status.

It also provides your company with a competitive advantage when selling your services to customers. Customers will like the fact --and your professionalism!-- that they can check on the status of their orders anywhere they have access to a web browser.

Is OrdersLink cost-effective?

That'll depend on how heavily your customers are using it. If you ran OrdersLink for 2 years, your daily cost is approximately $5.10, which is only $.64 per hour! The question is: Can your company save more than $.64 per hour by letting OrdersLink free up your staff to do other things? We trust you'll agree the savings with automated communications compared to the cost of salespersons and staff helping customers adds up to lower cost for customer service AND happier customers. Do I have to get into "Web Hosting" to use OrdersLink?

No. All of the OrdersLink websites are hosted on our server and given their own unique URL (web address). Example: www.tshirthut.orderslink.com. Each site is password protected so you control who has access to it.

How can I integrate OrdersLink with our existing site?

Because OrdersLink is a separate database-driven web application,
it must be hosted by us on our server. However, you simply create a link from your existing web site to your OrdersLink site. Your customers have immediate access to OrdersLink from your own website.

How is the information on the site updated?

OrdersLink is not a real-time connection to your ShopWorks OnSite system. Up to 5 times per day (you decide when), your ShopWorks OnSite system automatically generates an update, and emails it as an attachment to a mail address we create for you. Within minutes the updated information appears on the site.

The mechanics of manually updating your site is already built into ShopWorks OnSite 4.1 or higher, which is required for operating OrdersLink. For automatic updating (preferred) you will need to set up a "robot" computer at your office (see below).

What is a "robot"?

A "robot" is a Windows computer you set up at your office. It cannot be a server and must not be used as a workstation. The sole purpose of the robot is to update your web site and pull information from your UPS system to the web site. You do not have to purchase any additional software or licenses from us to run the robot.

In future versions of OnSite and OrdersLink, the "robot" will be able to do many functions you now have to do manually. Most customers use a "low-end" PC for their robot. Please call us for more information.

How often should information be updated?

There's no specific requirement for how often your data should be updated, but we recommend once (1) per day as a minimum and three times (5) per day as a maximum. The more you update your data, the more it approaches "real time."

Do I have to own ShopWorks OnSite to use OrdersLink?

Yes. OrdersLink is designed to augment ShopWorks OnSite. All of the tables and data used on OrdersLink are designed to be compatible with OnSite and can be updated by OnSite. Click here for more information on ShopWorks OnSite.
